Before beginning, make sure you are familiar with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.islandnumeracy.ca\/index.php\/components-and-structure\/\">INA Components and Structure<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n<a id=\"protocol\" name=\"protocol\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>General Protocol<\/h4>\n<table style=\"width: auto;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Preparing the materials<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li>Choose the component of the assessment that you will be using<\/li>\n<li>Print the number of copies you require (optional use of projector for collaborative task)\n<ul>\n<li>collaborative task sheets (1 per group)<\/li>\n<li>student response sheets (select, constructed and\/or performance task)<\/li>\n<li>student reflection sheets (collaborative and\/or student response)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Introducing the assessment to students<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li>Set the purpose of the assessment by telling students that the information will be used to plan and guide learning and instruction<\/li>\n<li>Facilitate any discussions your learners may need before beginning the assessment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Administering the assessment<\/strong><\/td>\n<td><u>Collaborative Task<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Arrange students into groupings that will facilitate discussion. (3 is optimal for collaborative learning)<\/li>\n<li>Teacher introduces the collaborative task to the whole class and initiates discussion<\/li>\n<li>Allow students the time they need to collaboratively solve the investigation, record and share out their learning<\/li>\n<li>Once all collaborative tasks have been collected, have students individually complete a <em>Collaborative Task Student Reflection Sheet<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Capture photographs of student work if they used non-permanent surfaces<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Collaborative Activity Reflection<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.islandnumeracy.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Reflection-Protocol.pdf\">Click here for Collaborative Student Reflection Protocol<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Individual Student Response<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Explain that students will be given the time they need to finish the assessment<\/li>\n<li>Provide students with the Individual Student Response section(s) that you are assessing for (selected, constructed and\/or rich task)<\/li>\n<li>Using their own responses as a reference, have students complete a<em> Post Strand Student Reflection Sheet<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Post-strand reflection<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.islandnumeracy.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Reflection-Protocol.pdf\">Click here for a detailed protocol for post-strand reflection<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Teacher reflection <\/strong><\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li>Use the Collaborative Task answer key, the Individual Student Response answer key and the Student Reflection sheets to look for patterns in students\u2019 thinking and understanding of the concepts<\/li>\n<li>Record your observations on the <em>Next Steps Planning Sheet <\/em>for the Number concept you are assessing<\/li>\n<li>Observations &#8211; whole group strengths, areas requiring development<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Important!
